Are help and support readily available?

The Scouting movement provides extensive support for your pack, including literature and training courses that provide detailed guidance, events in which your pack can participate, and the direct support of experienced Scouters and full-time professional staff.

Your Local Council Service Center

Your local council is an association that delivers the Scouting program within a specific geographic area. Each organization that operates a Scouting unit (including your own, once you have started a pack) has a representative who is a voting member of this council. The mission of the council is to provide service, leadership, management, and overall direction to districts and the organizations using the Scouting program in support of their units.

The support you will receive from your local council includes

  • A team of full-time professionals who provide guidance to volunteer leaders
  • Cub Scout day camp and resident camp
  • Councilwide activities such as Scouting shows
  • Recognition dinners for adults
  • "Pow Wow" and "University of Scouting" training events

Your District

Your council is divided geographically into districts, each of which has a volunteer district committee and commissioner staff that work more directly with chartered organizations to organize and support successful units.

The support you will receive from your district includes:

  • Training courses for your adult leaders
  • District activities for your pack to participate in
  • Obtaining financial support for your unit
  • A commissioner staff to coach and mentor unit leaders

With effective district support, more and more youth members receive a better Scouting program as both units and leaders succeed in achieving Scouting's aims.

The National Organization

The support you receive from your local council is backed by a national organization with almost a century's experience in delivering one of the nation's foremost youth programs. The national organization consists of thousands of full-time professional Scouters and more than a million volunteer leaders working together to ensure Scouting's success.
